1st EPNOE (European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence) Junior Scientists Meeting 2015 “Future Perspectives in Polysaccharide Research” co-organized by Materials Forming Center (CEMEF) of Mines ParisTech, Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research, University of Maribor, and Friedrich Schiller University of Jena was held on 19 – 20 January in Wageningen, the Netherlands. The meeting was destined to PhD students, Post-Doctoral scientists and junior Assistant Professors at the very beginning of their scientific career. The focus of the meeting was: (i) isolation and production of polysaccharides; (ii) chemical and enzymatic functionalization of polysaccharides; (iii) preparation of polysaccharide based materials; (iv) polysaccharides in advanced applications; and (v) biorefinery of polysaccharide biomass. Junior scientists presented results of their work and discussed their personal visions of what might be the future perspectives in polysaccharide research. Over 20 oral presentations and posters were presented during the meeting by 45 participants.
VTT’s research scientist Natalia Rosa-Sibakov presented the results of her work titled “Birch pulp xylan as dietary fibre ingredient and hydrocolloid for dairy applications”.
