Dietary choices may help prevent or promote diseases. However, the link between specific diets and health outcomes is generally poorly understood. Humans differ in their metabolic regulation, and an optimal diet for one individual is not necessarily optimum for another. Developments in nutritional metabolomics are therefore needed to facilitate transition of nutritional sciences from population-based to individual-based criteria for nutrition research; to support the integrated models for future personalized diet and nutrition forecasting.
