Around 110 participants from over 30 countries attended the International Symposium on Bioactive Compounds in Cereal Grains and Foods, 24-25 April 2014, in Vienna, Austria. The symposium was organised by ICC (the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology) and hosted by BOKU (the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna). This event attracted participants from around the globe providing up-to-date information in the area of bioactives research on health benefits and food uses, innovative processes and product development, market opportunities and added value food products. VTT's Academy Professor Kaisa Poutanen gave a presentation based on two PhD works which were carried out in collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland and INRA Montpellier, France. The presentation was titled "Improve the health effects of cereal fractions by a tailored disintegration".
