Metabomeeting 2011 gathered metabolomics experts to Helsinki

VTT was one of the organisers of an international conference Metabomeeting 2011 held in Helsinki in the end of September. This meeting gathered nearly 250 metabolomics experts together. The very high level program covered analytical and data processing advances as well as applications of metabolomics, including human health and nutrition, microbes, preclinical modelling and translation, plants and environmental monitoring.

VTT was represented by three talks: Tuulia Hyötyläinen presented "Challenges and novel methodologies in comprehensive metabolic profiling", Peddinti Gopalacharyulu’s presentation was titled "Discovery of diagnostic biomarkers for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)", and Matej Orešič presented "Lipidome in health and disease – an allostatic perspective". VTT had also many poster presentations including Sirkku Jäntti’s awarded poster titled “Metabolic profiling of serum and adipose tissue of monozygotic twins after high-fat meal”. The results of the meal test done with monozygotic twin pairs showed that levels of several metabolites are heritable.
