NEW PRESENTATION: Phenolic nutritional phytochemicals as biomarkers of plant food intake?
Wednesday, 05 October 2011 09:32
International PSE Symposium with a topic: Phytochemicals in Health and Nutrition was held on 27th – 30th September 2011 in Giovinazzo (BARI) Italy. The symposium was organized by Phytochemical Society of Europe and Professoressa Pinarosa Avato (Facolta di Farmacia, Universita Aldo Moro Degli Studia di Bari).
The 120 participants from Europe, South Korea, Australia, India, Thailand and Nigeria presented 11 plenary lectures, 28 short lectures and 63 posters at the beautiful, open and windy Ionian seashore and discussed nutritional biochemicals.
Dr Anna-Marja Aura from VTT held a plenary lecture titled: “Phenolic nutritional phytochemicals as biomarkers of plant food intake?” describing the food-related phenolic metabolites as biomarkers of both Mediterranean and Scandinavian plant food intake. The long residence time of the metabolites in the body enables potential local and systemic effects. The plenary also featured recent developments towards discovery of health effects of plant foods by nutritional systems biology with signal pathway regulation as the primary hypothesis.
