NEW PRESENTATION: Systems biology in food and nutrition research
Tuesday, 12 April 2011 05:40
During the session "Superfoods" in ChemBio Finland on March 24, 2011, Prof. Matej Oresic presented about "Systems biology in food and nutrition research". The presentation focused on the concept of systems biology and how it can benefit the food and nutrition research, including in making stronger scientific cases for health claims.
The EU FP7 project ETHERPATHS (www.etherpaths.org), coordinated by VTT, was presented. ETHERPATHS develops systems biology platform for nutrition research, which aims to bridge the in vitro, in vivo and clinical studies via state-of-the-art mathematical models and analytical platforms. The ETHERPATHS platform may for example elucidate which metabolites are produced in the colon from the dietary components and how these metabolites affect the host metabolism and health. One such example of an ongoing investigation of dietary phenolics was presented in Prof. Oresic's talk.
