In her doctoral thesis, Annika Wilhelmson M.Sc. studied the role of oxygen in two industrially important bioprocesses. The results can be applied in the further development of pharmaceutical compound production from plant root cultivations and in process planning in the malting industry.

Genomes to Systems 2008 - Call for posters and bursary application:
We are pleased to invite you to enter a poster abstract for a place in the Genomes to Systems 2008 poster presentation sessions, to be held on 18th & 19th March 2008.

The Phytochemical Society of Europe (PSE) congress entitled "Plants for human health in the post-genome era" was held in August 26-29, 2007 at Rantapuisto Congress Centre, Helsinki. The congress had over 180 participants and over 30 outstanding speakers from Europe, USA, Canada, Japan and South-Korea. The congress covered several important topics such as health benefits of plants, novel emerging technologies, and plants as factories for production of small molecules and therapeutic proteins. Research Scientist Arja Laitila has investigated the impacts of bacterial and fungal communities on barley germination and on malt properties in her PhD thesis work. She will defend her thesis "Microbes in the tailoring of barley malt properties” at the University of Helsinki on 31 August 2007.
